Businesses, Organizations Sign On To CCF Green Project

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– As we reported previously, this year’s Clay County Fair will have more of a green component to it, thanks to a recycling campaign that fairgoers, vendors and exhibitors will be encouraged to participate in.

Fair officials have announced one corporation, several organizations, DNR staffers and volunteers from the city of Spencer and Spencer Municipal Utilities have agreed to participate in the daily collection of recyclables.

Employees of Eaton Corporation in Spencer have volunteered to lead the plastic recycling collection three days during the fair. The company has also paid for safety-colored t-shirts for all volunteers through the week.

Organizations that have signed up to help out include Positively Spencer Youth, Spencer Rotary Club, and Spencer Boy Scouts.

In addition, several Iowa Lakes Community College students will help with special appearances from a character named “Woodsy”, who will make the rounds reminding fairgoers to recycle. If Woodsy observes someone recycling, that person could win a free gift.

Crews will travel the fairgrounds each afternoon at about 4:00 p.m. to collect plastic and aluminum cans and bottles from the designated drop-off sites.

Containers for recycling other materials, including cardboard, are located just west of the log cabin and east of the grandstand.
