(Spirit Lake)– Think there’s still a recession going on? Try telling that to the CEO of a Spirit Lake company.
Ivan Brown of Brown Medical Industries, Incorporated says business for his company is booming right now and is the best it’s been in years…thanks to a significant increase in domestic sales. Brown says the increase comes at a time when sales abroad are pretty much flat. He says the increase in demand domestically is proof consumers are once again spending money at the retail level, resulting in their sales going up.
Brown attributes some of the increase in demand to a new line of products the company has been manufacturing since acquiring IMAK Products of San Diego, California and moving the operations to Spirit Lake. Brown says the company is enjoying a 130 percent increase in sales domestically and nearly 80 percent worldwide.
Brown Medical Industries, Incorporated employs about 55 people, most of those here in Spirit Lake. Brown says employment for the company is up 67 percent for the year. He says they’re looking to add two more people at the Spirit Lake plant by the end of the year and five more in 2011. In addition, Brown says an expansion of the Spirit Lake facility is likely sometime in the near future.
Brown Medical Industries, Incorporated manufactures medical products. It sells orthopaedic, podiatric, pain relief and surgical items in the U.S. and in more than 100 countries worldwide.
