Burning Ban Implemented In Clay County

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– A ban on all open burning has been implemented in Clay county effective immediately.

Spencer Fire Chief Doug Duncan says he and other Clay county Fire Chiefs requested the ban through the State Fire Marshall’s Office as a result of the extremely dry conditions.

There have been several incidents recently in which parched fields have been accidentally set on fire by hot parts of combines.

Duncan says the ban on all open burning in Clay county will remain in effect until the Fire Chiefs feel the danger has eased.

It’s been weeks since most of the area has had any measurable rainfall.
