(Spirit Lake)– Snowmobilers, skiers and others who like snow may be less than thrilled with our snow-less winter so far. But one person who’s perfectly satisfied with things just the way are is Dickinson County Engineer Dan Eckert. He says the snow-free winter is allowing crews to get other things done beside plowing snow. Eckert says crews are busy with a variety of maintenance tasks that typically wouldn’t be possible this time of year. Things like trimming trees and brush in right-of-way.
Eckert says the lack of snow is resulting in a considerable savings on wear-and-tear on equipment. He estimates only a tenth of his budget has been spent so far on snow removal for the season. That’s even less than the extremely mild winter a year ago.
Eckert, like many others, is keeping his fingers crossed the rest of this winter is just as quiet.
