Broken Natural Gas Line Results In Evacuation Of Arnolds Park Neighborhood

November 23, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– A broken natural gas line caused some excitement this (Thurs.) morning in Arnolds Park.

Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Chief Steve Dulin tells KUOO news a contractor was doing some digging on Mallard Creek Drive in the Pelican Ridge area when he struck a natural gas service line, breaking it off. Dulin says firefighters were able to pinch it off until the gas company could arrive to fix it.

Dulin says several houses in the vicinity of the leak were evacuated and some streets were blocked off as a precaution, but no other incidents were reported. Residents were allowed to return and the streets were reopened once the repairs were completed about a half hour later.

Dulin says the incident spells out the importance of calling Iowa One Call before digging.

Authorities were called to the scene around 10:20 a.m. They were there about a half-hour.
