(West Okoboji)– A broken natural gas line made for some tense moments this (Fri.) morning in the Maywood area of West Okoboji.
Milford Fire Chief Don Eckard says crews were called to the scene on Lake Street shortly after 9:00 a.m. Eckard says a landscape contractor accidentally severed a half-inch gas line. He says the area was evacuated and closed off to traffic as a precaution.
Fortunately, there were no incidents. Officials with Aquila arrived a short time later and got the gas shut off, eliminating any possibility of an explosion.
The area was reopened to traffic and residents were allowed to return to their homes after being evacuated for about a half hour.
