Boji Bay For Sale; Power Turned Off; Cochran Resigns From Ownership Company

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– Boji Bay in Milford will NOT open this summer…atleast not under the current ownership.

The Milford city council Monday discussed a letter from one of the water park’s owners, Doctor Tim Cochran, which makes that satement.

Cochran also states in the letter that he’s resigned from the company that owns the attraction, which is now up for sale.

A letter from Boji Bay attorneys refers to 20-thousand dollars they say the city promised to make to Boji Bay a year or so ago. City officials say the payment was contingent on the city getting a grant from the state, which was denied.

The council monday acted on a request from Boji Bay for 30-thousand dollars that was made of the city at a council meeting January 17th, 2004. The council voted unanimously Monday to deny that request.

Meanwhile, Milford Municipal Utilities has shut off power to Boji Bay for non-payment of bills. Mayor Virg Wahlman was critical of the process utility workers used to do that, but council member Teresa Netsch referred to a written notice that was given to the business giving it advance warning of the shut-off.

The council did not discuss Monday what role, if any, the city should have when it comes to Boji Bay’s future. Mayor Virg Wahlman suggested the council have a work session in the near future to discuss the matter, saying the city shouldn’t just close the door on it. Wahlman says Boji Bay is an asset to Milford and it’s businesses.

The attraction has been formally offered to the city, which has paid slightly more than 211-thousand dollars in Tax Increment Financing over the years to the water park’s current owners as an incentive to keep the operation going. City Administrator Brian Reed told the council he had requested a profit and loss statement from the owners, but instead received only a partial financial report on the business.
