(Arnolds Park)– A special group of current and honorably retired law enforcement officers held a special event Sunday (8/8) at the Arnolds Park Amusement Park.
Don Stehr, President of the Blue Knights, says the international organization was started in the 1970’s in Bangor, Maine. The local chapter was started in 2001 and currently has 16-17 members.
The local organization has brought a group of at-risk boys from Peterson, Iowa to Arnolds Park the last five years, treating them to a day of rides, pizza and other activities.
Stehr says the local organization is putting in a bid for the Iowa Great Lakes to host the 2011 eight-state midwest conference of the Blue Knights. He says the event would draw some 150 to 200 members to the area.
