(Spirit Lake)– Representatives of a residential development on the north shore of Big Spirit Lake are thinking about requesting the county establish a Tax Increment Finance district for their area.
The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday approved a request from the Shore Acres Association directing the County Engineer to put together cost estimates to bring roads in the subdivision up to county standards. If the estimates show it’s feasible, Scott Bowermeister, an attorney representing the association, says they’ll come back to the supervisors requesting a TIF District be formed what would pay for the improvements.
Bowermeister says 70 lots and 66 homeowners would be benefitted by the improvements.
The supervisors heard the latest proposal for a TIF District after voting unanimously Tuesday to extend the life of another one. After a public hearing that drew no comments, the supervisors voted five-to-nothing to extend a TIF District in the East Okoboji Beach area through the end of 2022. That district was originally formed to extend sanitary sewer service to that area. The extension will allow for some drainage projects to be carried out, followed by the hard-surfacing of roads.
