(Spencer)– Nearly 50 different contractors have submitted bids for the new Spencer Middle School.
The Spencer school board held a public hearing Wednesday to accept bids on the 12.2 million dollar facility. Bids were separated into nine areas including general construction, mechanical, electrical, casework, temperature control, gym floor, bleachers, athletic and wardrobe lockers.
The architectural firm in charge of the project, Neumann Monson Wictor Architects of Sioux City facilitated the bid opening. Ken Wictor represented the firm. He says the next step is to closely analyze the bids. Wictor says all of the bids, with the exception of a couple for equipment, came in well below estimates.
The lowest base bid for general construction was submitted by Larson Contracting out of Lake Mills in the amount of 5,615,474-dollars. The highest came from Christensen Construction of Estherville at 6.64 million dollars.
The Spencer school board will meet at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 5th at which time they’ll award the bids for all nine areas of the project.
