Ball Resigns From Milford City Council

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– There will soon be a vacancy on the Milford city council.

Councilman Detlef Ball announced at Monday’s meeting he’s resigning effective August 1st. Ball has accepted a job transfer that will be taking him to Racine, Wisconsin.

City Administrator Brian Reed says the council will elect someone to fill the vacancy the rest of this year. Voters will then have a say on who should fill the remaining two years as it will be put on the ballot with the November election.

In other business, there was considerable discussion with the county over the Sixth Street culverts and a possible restriction causing some downstream flooding on Mill Creek. No action was taken as there’s a question over jurisdiction.

The council approved the second reading of an ordinance increasing sanitary sewer rates by a dime per thousand gallons of water used and on a new fee structure for residential garbage dumpsters. It calls for a $7.50 fee for the first four days; $10 the next four; and $15 thereafter. Reed says the new fees are intended to encourage the more timely return of dumpsters.
