(Wahpeton)– Authorities have seized a boat believed to be involved in a hit-and-run crash early August 12th on West Lake Okoboji that claimed the life of 51-year-old Michael Brosnahan and injured his 50-year-old wife, Jill.
Kevin Baskins of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources says the boat was found late Friday night in a boat lift on West Lake Okoboji. He isn’t divulging the exact location of where the boat was seized or how they happened to identify it as a possible suspect boat. Baskins says the boat is in the custody of law enforcement officials and is being examined by investigators with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. He says the seized boat fits the description of the boat officials have been looking for and “there are some things on that boat” they’re closely examining.
Baskins says no charges have been filed and no one has been arrested…yet. He adds the investigation is progressing, but says no additional information will be released until Monday or Tuesday.
The boat the Brosnahans and four others were aboard was struck from behind around 2:00 a.m. Friday, August 12th. The suspect boat vaulted over it and took off.
Officials emphasize the investigation is ongoing and they’re still encouraging anyone with any information to contact the DNR Lake Patrol at 337-3377.
The DNR, DCI, Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office and several other law enforcement agencies are involved in the investigation.
