(Cherokee)– Cherokee county officials have released the name of the pilot killed Sunday when an ultra-light plane he was flying crashed in a cornfield.
The victim is identified as 47-year-old Gary Marsh of West Des Moines.
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office says the plane went down early Sunday afternoon about a mile and-a-half west of Cherokee south of County Road C-38.
It’s believed Marsh was following the RAGBRAI (Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa) route. Cherokee was the first night’s stop for the riders.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the cause of the crash.
