Arnolds Park Trailerhouse Damaged By Fire

November 23, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– A trailerhouse was damaged by fire Wednesday evening in Arnolds Park.

Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Chief Steve Dulin says firefighters were called to the Lakewood Trailer Court on Rohr Street around 5:30 p.m.

Upon arriving, Dulin says smoke could be seen coming from underneath the trailer. He says firefighters removed skirting from around the bottom of the trailer and quickly extinguished some leaves, insulation and flooring that had caught fire. Dulin says damage was contained to the underneath of the trailer.

He says the fire was caused by faulty wiring that had shorted and energized the trailer’s frame. Dulin says the wiring was removed and the owner will be required to re-wire it before being able to move back in.

Dulin says no one was home at the time of the fire. He says the owner is from Remsen, Iowa.

The smoke was discovered by a neighbor who called the Dickinson County Communications Center. Dulin says it’s a good thing the fire was discovered when it was. He says it had already been smouldering for atleast an hour or two. Dulin says much longer and the entire trailer would have gone up.

The Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Department was on the scene slightly more than an hour.

No injuries were reported.
