Arnolds Park To Once Again Utilize Reserve Police Officers This Summer

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– The Arnolds Park Police Department will once again have additional officers on duty this summer.

Police Chief Clark Reekers says the additional help will come from 17 reserve officers that will compliment full-time officers during peak times.

Reekers says the reserves are in no way intended to replace full time officers. He says they only compliment them. He says the reserves work for a small, token wage to get experience in law enforcement. Reekers says many go on to become full-time officers with other departments.

Reekers says the reserve officers undergo training similar to full-time officers and have the same arrest powers.

Reekers estimates last year alone the reserve officers resulted in a savings of more than 30-thousand dollars to the city.

Most of the reserves come from the Iowa Great Lakes and surrounding area.

The Arnolds Park City Council Wednesday evening approved the roster of reserve officers for the upcoming summer.
