(Arnolds Park)– The Arnolds Park City Council Wednesday evening decided to press ahead with a controversial street project.
The city plans to re-build Okoboji Grove Road…making it a 24-foot wide street with curb and gutter. It’s not that part of the project that’s drawing most of the opposition, though. It’s the provisions for a 10-foot-wide recreational trail along it that’s causing the flap. Several who spoke at a public hearing said they simply don’t want the trail. That part of the project has an estimated cost of 84,500-dollars. 74-thousand of that is covered through a state grant.
Some wondered why the city should fix the road…saying it was torn up when the state used it as a detour during the Highway 71 project. Councilmembers responded by saying the project is in the city’s long range plans. They then voted unanimously to approve the plans and specifications and scheduled a bidletting for their regular meeting in January.
