(Arnolds Park)– An investigation is underway into the theft of one piece of a three-person statue that was stolen this past weekend from the Steve Kennedy Memorial at the State Pier near the Arnolds Park Amusement Park.
Officials with the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum say the life-size depiction of a young boy standing at the side of the late Steve Kennedy, Maritime Museum founder and former curator, was removed sometime Friday night.
Kennedy’s likeness and that of a young girl standing on his other side weren’t damaged.
As with the other two figures, the boy’s image was bolted into a concrete slab.
Officials say prior to being vandalized, the entire statue’s value was 55-thousand dollars.
Arnolds Park Police Chief Al Krueger told KUOO news that as of late today (Sunday) there was nothing new to report in their investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Dickinson County Communications Center at 336-2525.
