Arnolds Park Police Chief Announces Resignation

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– The city of Arnolds Park is looking for a new Police Chief.

Clark Reekers announced at Wednesday’s city council meeting he’ll be resigning from the position effective June 21st.

Reekers says he wants to devote more time and attention to a cleaning business he owns. He says it’s grown beyond what he had expected. And Reekers says he decided it was time to move on after 30 years in law enforcement.

Reekers told the council he’d still be willing to work as a part-time officer.

Reekers has been Arnolds Park’s Police Chief the last three years. He also served a stint as the city’s Police Chief in the early 1990’s–from 1990 to 1993.

Reekers says he’ll definitely miss working with the public on a daily basis. He says he’s proud of the direction the department has taken in recent years, siting things such as the DARE Program, the reserve program and the department’s canine unit.

Reekers admits his departure comes at the busiest time of the year for the Arnolds Park Police Department, but he says the department and it’s officers have a lot of integrity.

Assistant Chief Al Krueger will fill in as chief in the interim.

Mayor Mike Mitchell told the council he had met with Reekers earlier in the day Wednesday and accepted his resignation with regret.

The city’s Personnel Committee will meet in the near future to decide where to go from here.
