Arnolds Park, Okoboji Awarded State Funding To Help With Water Plant Upgrade

(Arnolds Park)– Two lakes area cities have been awarded funding through a state program to assist in a massive upgrade of the Central Water System’s treatment plant.

Arnolds Park will receive slightly more than 1.4 million dollars and Okoboji will get 860-thousand dollars through the Water Quality Financial Assistance Program, which is part of the state’s I-JOBS initiative.

The initiative provided $55 million for the program, administered by the Iowia Finance Authority. Of that, $35 million is reserved for communities with populations less than 10-thousand for drinking water and wastewater projects. The remaining 20 million is reserved for communities with populations greater than 10-thousand.

Other communities in the region awarded funding through the program include Algona which will receive $655,000 for upgrades to a wastewater treatment facility; Cherokee will receive $60,000 to rehabilitate two lift stations; and Sibley was awarded $475,000 for a new storage tank, service pumps, a stand-by generator and to replace a water main.
