Arnolds Park Green Space May Change Hands

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– The green space just east of the Arnolds Park Amusement Park may soon have a new owner.

Jim Frost, Assistant Chairman of the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum, told the Arnolds Park city council Wednesday he’s been in contact with a benefactor interested in purchasing the green space from the Maritime Museum. Frost says the offer is contingent on securing an agreement with a mutually agreeable third party to receive the property as a gift from the non-profit coporation. He says the city would be a perfect entity for that.

There is a caveat, though. The area would have to be maintained as a green space in perpetuity. He says the green space stands a much better chance being sustained with the city than it would with the Maritime Museum.

In addition, Frost says the Maritime Museum would probably continue to use the land as it has in the past for outdoor concerts and other venues under a lease agreement.

Frost says a lot of details still need to be worked out, including how the transfer would take place and a selling price. He says a price has been suggested to the benefactor who has neither agreed or disagreed to it.

Frost says the benefactor wishes to remain anonymous for now.

The city council was receptive to the proposal and directed Frost to continue his talks with the benefactor.
