(Arnolds Park)– The Arnolds Park city council Wednesday took no action on how to treat business owners that don’t comply with an ordinance to have parking lots paved by December 15, or if they’re going to allow extensions due to special circumstances.
The council heard Wednesday from representatives of several businesses who have yet to comply. Each outlined a special set of circumstances as to why they haven’t paved yet.
City Attorney Harold White told the council the ordinance, adopted about two and-a-half years ago, would have to be amended if the council decides to grant extensions. Another option, he said, is to leave enforcement of the ordinance at the discretion of City Administrator Ron Walker, who was directed to get an inventory of parking lots that haven’t been paved yet. Walker and White will meet once the list has been compiled to further explore possible options. White cautioned the council not to be too lenient on those who haven’t complied out of courtesy for those who have.
The city itself has three parking lots that need to be paved to meet the ordinance.
