Arnolds Park Council Awards Bid On Highway 71 Beautification Project

November 23, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– The Arnolds Park City Council has awarded a bid on a project for some landscaping and other amenities along Highway 71 through the town.

The project was awarded to Mark’s Lawn Service of Granville, Iowa…low bidder at 596,880-dollars. That was below the engineer’s estimate of 646-thousand dollars.

City Administrator Ron Walker says the council’s action to award the bid was a rubber stamp. It’s already been approved by the Iowa Department of Transportation. Walker says the D-O-T’s involvement is needed because the project is being paid in part through a 456-thousand dollar state enhancement grant.

The project will result in retaining walls, natural rock pillars, pedestrian lighting and decorative pavers being installed at the intersections of Broadway Street near the Okoboji Middle School and Lake Street at the entrance to the amusement park. In addition, the grassy area between the curb and sidewalk along the highway will be removed and replaced with exposed aggregate concrete.

Work on the project is to start very soon. Construction will be halted for the summer Memorial Day. It will resume after Labor Day with completion slated for this fall.
