(Spirit Lake)– An arcing power line caused some excitement late Monday afternoon in downtown Spirit Lake.
Authorities say a service feeder that connects to a primary power line failed on a pole just west of the courthouse…causing the line to start arcing.
There was actually no fire, though, and no damage was reported.
Power had to be shut off to the Dickinson County Courthouse as a result…forcing some offices to close early for the day.
A one block area of 19th street between Hill and Ithaca Avenues was closed to traffic and pedestrians for about a half hour out of concern the line was going to come down. Crews with Alliant Energy arrived and shut the power off to the line before that could happen and no incidents were reported.
The Spirit Lake Fire Department stood by as a precaution.
The incident took place around 4:00 Monday afternoon.
