(Arnolds Park)– The Arnolds Park city council Wednesday voted to enter into a new two-year contract with Shamrock Recycling, with an option to extend it an additional five years beyond that, with a consumer price index to be figured in each year.
Shamrock officials originally requested a contract for five years.
But city officials requested a two-year agreement to coincide with the expiration of their garbage contract in April, 2006. City Administrator Ron Walker says the two-year contract with the option to extend to five years will give the city more option in negotiating contracts.
The council also voted four-to-one to vacate and sell some unused right-of-way along Minnewashta Beach Road to John Wanninger for 55 cents a square foot.
Councilman Mike Koppert cast the no vote, saying the city should have upped the price.
The council took the action following a public hearing that drew no comments.
Wanninger is building a condominium complex in that area.
