AP Council Tables Equipment Truck Purchase

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– The Arnolds Park city council Wednesday tabled action on the purchase of a new 194-thousand dollar equipment truck for the Fire Department.

The council expressed concern over finances, since money for the truck wasn’t included in the budget. Some of it could come from the sale of a pumper truck…of which the department currently has two. Chief Steve Dulin says that’s two too many for a Fire Department the size of Arnolds Park/Okoboji. Dulin says the two pumper trucks pump water in different ways, and that there aren’t enough members on the department to properly train to operate both trucks. He says one pumper truck is more than adequate, since Milford and Spirit Lake also have pumpers that could be called if needed.

Dulin says a city has already offered 70-thousand dollars for the truck they want to sell. Proceeds from the sale would be split between Arnolds Park and Okoboji.

The council scheduled a special meeting for 7:00 p.m. April 28th to further discuss the purchase of the new equipment truck and the possible sale of one of the pumper trucks.
