AP Council Schedules Bidletting On Baseball Field Project

November 23, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– Meeting in special session Friday, the Arnolds Park city council set April 9th as the date for a bidletting on rennovations proposed for the baseball diamond just east of Highway 71.

The council will be accepting bids on grading, drainage, storm sewer and gravel for a new parking area. City Administrator Ron Walker says plans also call for the entire field to be slightly relocated on its existing site…moving it southeast. While that will reduce the size of the field, Walker says it will still be suitable for little league guidelines. He says moving the field away from Bascom Street and the highway will make it safer. It will also create an additional 60 to 80 parking spaces on the east side of Bascom Street.

Plans call for new lights to be installed as well. Bids on that project will be taken later.

Walker says the goal is to have everything completed by June 1st, in time for the start of the upcoming little league season.

Total cost of the project is estimated at between 50-thousand and 55-thousand dollars.

The city took over maintenance of the field through an agreement with the Okoboji school board. The district still owns the land, but was no longer interested in maintaining the field.
