AP Council Awards Bids On Lift Station Upgrade/West Broadway Trail

November 23, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– The planned rennovation of a sewer lift station on Dam Road in Arnolds Park is about to get off the drawing board as the result of Wednesday’s city council meeting.

The council awarded a low bid on the installation part of the project to Valley Contracting of Estherville at 13,297-dollars. The engineer’s estimate was 11,924-dollars. In addition to upgrading the station, it will also be relocated out of street right-of-way.

The council also awarded a bid of 68,224-dollars from Cohr’s Construction for the West Broadway Trail Enhancement Project; they voted to refinance 900-thousand dollars in capital loan notes through United Missouri Bank of Kansas City at an interest rate of 2.934 percent. That compares to 5.1 percent the city is currently paying in interest. It will translate to a savings of 78,500-dollars in interest costs to the city.

The council also voted to purchase a used sewer jet at a cost of 15,375-dollars to be split with the city of Okoboji; they adopted an ordinance increasing misdemeanor fines not to exceed five hundred dollars; they approved a 54-thousand dollar contract with Jacobson/Westergard for engineering on the Okoboji Cemetary Wall and War Memorial relocation projects; and they reviewed the proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year. The tax levy will be $6.85 per thousand dollars valuation…the same as under the current budget. City Administrator Ron Walker says there’s a possibility it could be lowered as budget talks continue. The council will meet at 10:00 a.m. Friday to review the numbers further.
