AP Council Approves Land Sale To Developer

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– Meeting in special session Wednesday, the Arnolds Park City Council voted to sell some city-owned land to an Omaha developer.

John Wanninger recently purchased land along Highway 71 across from Oak Hill Marina where he plans to build a complex of condominiums. His original plans called for a 36-unit complex, but he now wants to expand it to 42 units that would be housed in three different buildings. Additional land was needed though to meet zoning setback requirements.

Wanninger’s request to purchase excess city-owned right-of-way along Dam Road was initially brought to the city council earlier this month. Two council members were concerned over a provision asking the city to sell the land for a dollar. A motion was made that time to sell the land for a negotiated price instead. Since then, a price of 12,337-dollars was arrived at. Several restrictions have been placed on the land to protect it as green space.

The council Wednesday voted Four-to-one to sell it for that amount to Wanninger.

Councilman Jason Christensen cast the lone no vote.
