(Cedar Rapids)– Alliant Energy says it’s going to request permission from the Iowa Utilities Board to increase its rates.
Company President Eliot Protsch won’t say how big of an increase they’re looking at.
He says Alliant plans to invest more than a billion dollars in new energy systems over the next four years.
Protsch sites a 30 percent increase in demand for electricity in Iowa since 1992. And he says it’s only going to continue to increase as more and more computers, larger televisions, electronic game systems and other devices are powered up.
Protsch says since 1997, Alliant has spent more than 820 million dollars to upgrade equipment.
Protsch says this would be the first rate increase it atleast eight years.
