Alleged Incident In Spirit Lake Results In Weapons/Drug Charges

(Spirit Lake)– Drug and weapons charges have been filed in connection with an alleged incident late Wednesday night in Spirit Lake.

Authorities were called to the parkinglot behind the Marquee shortly before midnight. Spirit Lake Police Chief Jon Martyr says officers were responding to a report of a man allegedly flashing a gun after getting into a dispute with another person while dancing at the night club.

Martyr says the man who allegedly flashed the gun got left the club and got into a vehicle. Martyr says police searched three vehicles in the parking lot behind the Marquee by consent. He says officers found a handgun and fully loaded magazine in one of the vehicles, along with drugs.

Arrested was 20-year-old Jose Antonio Djesus of Sioux Falls who was charged with going armed with intent and unlawfully carrying weapons; 23-year-old Elvis Wayne Dunnley of Sioux Falls who was charged with public intoxication; possession of a controlled substance, marijuana; and possession of drug paraphernalia; and 22-year-old Jessica Mejias Lovoie of Iona, Minnesota who was charged with possession of a controlled substance, marijuana.

Martyr says pending further investigation, additional arrests may be made and charges filed.

Martyr says the three were in a group of two carloads of people who had left Sioux Falls, stopped in Worthington at a party, and continued on to Spirit Lake.

The Spirit Lake Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Okoboji, Arnolds Park and Milford Police Departments, the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol.
