(Spencer)– The Iowa Department of Transportation says motorists traveling through the north intersection of Highways 18 and 71, or the North Y in Spencer, will notice some additional enforcement and monitoring equipment.
Jessica Felix, a District 3 Engineer with the Iowa D.O.T, says speed feedback trailers are being installed this week, in addition to traffic cameras that are already present at the intersection. She says the additional equipment and law enforcement will continue to be present prior to the construction of a roundabout. A bid letting for crossovers and a detour route for the project is set for this coming July with a letting for the roundabout itself set for October of this year.
The announcement of the additional measures at the North Y follow the most recent serious accident on April 16th
involving a motorcycle and a semi. The driver of the motorcycle was seriously injured.
