Additional Officers To Be On The Roads For New Year’s

November 23, 2014

(Spencer)– Expect to see additional law enforcement officers on the roads during the New Year’s holiday period.

The Iowa State Patrol will be among them. Trooper Joe Thompson tells KUOO news they’ll be out in force looking for impaired drivers, speeder, seatbelt and child restraint violations and other types of offenses.

The Spirit Lake Police Department will also have a high presence over the upcoming holiday. Officers will be participating in the Special Traffic Enforcement Program, or STEP, through the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau. The Spirit Lake Police Department has received four thousand dollars for radar and alcohol testing devices for its participation in the program in the past.

During the last STEP wave from November 25th to December 1st, Spirit Lake police issued about 112 motor vehicle citations and made 12 traffic-related arrests.
