(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county Compensation Board is recommending a five percent across-the-board salary increase for the county’s elected officials. The panel is comprised of citizen representatives appointed by the office-holders and meets once a year at budget time.
Larry Stoller, who represents the County Recorder, made the motion for the five percent hike…basing it in part on a 3.5 percent increase in the consumer price index in 2001.
The Board of Supervisors make the final determination on pay raises. They may accept the Compensation Board’s recommendation, reject it totally or approve something in between. Under state law if they do approve a smaller increase they must lower all raises by the same percent so as not to single out any office holder.
The fact the Board of Supervisors will grow from three to five members mid-way through the next fiscal year wasn’t addressed in Tuesday’s salary discussions.
