3-Vehicle Accident Shuts Down Westbd. Lanes Of 9 & 71 In SL

(Spirit Lake)– A three-vehicle collision this (Thurs.) afternoon shutdown the westbound lanes of Highways nine and 71 in front of the Dairy Queen in Spirit Lake for about a half-hour.

Police say vehicles driven by 43-year-old Mary Ellen Edgar of Minneapolis and 38-year-old Randy Shelton of La Vista, Nebraska had both stopped in traffic. Authorities say a third vehicle driven by 31-year-old Greg Sindt of Estherville came upon the scene and collided with the rear of the vehicle driven by Shelton, pushing it into the one driven by Edgar.

A passenger in the Sindt vehicle, 33-year-old John Sindt of Everly, complained of possible injuries. He sought his own treatment. No other injuries were reported.

Five thousand dollars in damage was estimated to a 2000 Ford pickup driven by Sindt and to a 1989 Dodge pickup driven by Shelton; 200-dollars in damage was estimated to a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Edgar.

Greg Sindt was charged with failure to stop in a safe, assurred distance.

The crash took place around 1:30 p.m.
