(Wahpeton)– The second phase of a report into fire protection and emergency services in southern Dickinson county is winding down.
The cities of Milford, Wahpeton and West Okoboji and surrounding townships have contracted with George Oster, a Fire Protection and Emergency Services Consultant of Ames, to conduct a study into possible ways to increase efficiency. Meetings with the cities and townships on the first phase of Oster’s study were held in December and April. With the second phase complete, Oster says he’ll be holding another meeting with those officials as well as the general public. It’s scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 2nd at the Milford Community Building.
Oster says he makes several recommendations in his report. Among them is improved communications between the fire department, cities and townships. It also calls for the construction of a new fire/emergency response station somewhere on the west side of West Lake Okoboji.
Following the June 2nd meeting Oster says it will be up to local officials to determine where to go from here.
