(Milford)– Dickinson county residents will soon have an opportunity to dispose of household hazardous materials.
John Walters of the Dickinson County Conservation Board tells KUOO news they’ll be holding a toxic cleanup day Saturday, August 7th from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Milford city maintenance buildings.
Items such as motor vehicle fluids, used motor oil, lawn and garden pesticides and herbicides, fertilizer, fuels, paint, varnish, paint thinner, ant killer, rodent poison, mercury thermometers and medical syringes will be accepted.
Walters says the event will be held free of charge. It’s being financed by proceeds from tipping fees at the landfill that are rebated to the Dickinson County Landfill Commission by Waste Management, which owns and operates the landfill.
Walters says they’ve contracted with SafetyKleen which will have technicians on hand for the August 7th event. The company is licensed as a hazardous waste disposal firm.
This is the first time since 1992 a toxic waste cleanup has been held in Dickinson county.
