(Des Moines)– A local teacher is in the running for a prestigious honor through the Iowa Department of Education.
Abby Goodlaxson, a physican education and health instructor at Okoboji High School, is one of nine regional teachers of the year for 2027 and is now a finalist for Iowa Teacher of the Year, to be announced later this fall. Last year’s recipient of that award was Stephanie Pritts, an instructional coach and elementary teacher at the Sheldon Community School District.
Goodlaxson has been recognized numerous times in the past on the state, regional and national levels. She was one of six finalists for the SHAPE National Teacher of the Year in 2017.
