“We’re the only municipality in the study in Iowa that’s participating. The cool part about this is NASA is working on the ability to predict rainfall amounts in our area, in the Upper Midwest, specifically in Iowa, that deal with the Rocky Mountains and the formation of the systems before they’re fully formed based on the evaporation and cloud density content, to be able to increase the lead time that we can get to be able to predict flash flooding because we’ll be able to have an earlier prediction on how much rain could fall where. Spencer, Iowa is part of that. They’re using the ’24 disaster as a model. It originated out in the Rockies and came across the plains. That’s exciting. That will kick off here this fall.”
Robinson informed the city council of Spencer’s acceptance into the study at their meeting Tuesday evening.
