(Spirit Lake)– Swimming is NOT being recommended at two popular beaches in the Iowa Great Lakes as we head into the Labor Day holiday weekend. Both are on Big Spirit Lake.
The Iowa DNR’s weekly beach monitoring report that came out today (Friday) shows Crandall’s Beach exceeded safety guidelines for E-coli and Marble Beach exceeded safety thresholds for algal toxins.
All other beaches in the Iowa Great Lakes that are in the monitoring program were listed as okay for swimming. Those include Ainsworth Beach on Big Spirit Lake, along with Triboji Beach, Pikes Point, Gull Point and Emmerson Bay, all on West Lake Okoboji.
