(Spencer)– Some improvements have been made to the entry area of one of the Clay County Fair’s most iconic attractions. CEO and Manager Jason Brockshus says the first phase of renovations is now complete at the grandstand…
“We re-did that whole front area, built brand new handicap booths, opened that whole area up, so that is complete and it’s all smooth. Phase one means presumably there’s a phase two and we’re working on what that could be. We know that 1931 stucco has seen better days so if there’s a way for us to cost effectively improve upon that look of the grandstands, it would be great. You know, the nuts and bolts of the grandstand is awesome. It’s a steel and concrete structure built in ’31, fire resistant because it was built the same year after the Spencer fires, so I think that was on everybody’s mines to build something that would be safe and last a long time. But just the fascia of that whole thing needs a facelift, it needs an improvement before it’s 100 years old in 2031.”
Brockshus says fair goers will notice some other changes on the grounds as well…
“Additional information booths, we’re expanding our ag education in the areas of dairy experience and Grandpa’s Barn and then our Discovery Stage as well as adding a couple new vendors as well as pony rides and things. I think there’s always something new and exciting for all ages to participate in. Please enjoy our new paved areas all the way from Grandpa’s Barn all the way down to the small animal barn. There’s some pony rides along there and the Outdoor Arena, activities there happening all throughout the fair.”
Brockshus adds infrastructure improvements have been made to the campgrounds as well.
