(Spirit Lake)– A Florida man was injured when a vehicle he was driving was involved in a head-on collision with a semi Wednesday evening on Highway 86 at the intersection with 190th Street in Wahpeton.
The Iowa State Patrol says 67-year-old Robert Spears of Tampa, Florida was driving a 2009 Toyota Highlander northbound when he crossed the center line and collided with a southbound 2017 Peterbilt semi driven by 56-year-old Clarence Horst of Ruthven.
Spears was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Milford Police Department, Milford Fire Department and the Iowa D.O.T assisted on the scene.
The collision took place around 6:40 pm. It resulted in Highway 86 in that area being shut down for nearly three hours.
