(Undated)– Iowa appears on track for having less than 300 traffic fatalities for a second consecutive year. Kevin Krull of the Iowa State Patrol tells KUOO news that’s the case even though the numbers are running a bit ahead of what they were a year ago at this time…
“Fatalities, we’re actually at 184, so it’s up a little bit from where we’ve been last year, but we’re 13 better than our five-year overage, so we could potentially get under 300 again which is, one of our goals always is zero, but that 300 is kind of our benchmark and we blew that out of the water last year with 260, and that was the first time in 100 years, so hopefully we can do back to back years of under 300 deaths. That would be amazing to be able to have that and continue that trend toward zero fatalities.”
Krull says everyone has an important role to play in reaching that goal, simply by buckling up, obeying speed limits, not drinking and driving and not being distracted while behind the wheel. He says it’s further indication Iowa’s no hands law passed a few years ago is continuing to have a positive effect.
