(Arnolds Park)– Pump up the tires and release that kickstand. The annual University of Okoboji Campus Classic Bike Ride is this weekend in the Iowa Great Lakes. Saturday’s ride begins and ends at Florence Park in Milford.
Morgan Strauss of the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, which is organizing the event again this year, says there’s still time to get signed up…
“The online registration closes tomorrow at 4:00 pm but you still do have a chance to register Friday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 at Florence Park as well as Saturday morning before the bike ride. That bike ride kicks off Saturday morning and you can either go 25, 50 or 100 miles around our beautiful Iowa Great Lakes campus.”
She says the event typically draws hundreds of people to the area each year…
“So registered folks, you know we have around 500 and then you always have the people that kind of kick off from their lake homes and just ride around the lakes as always, so I’d like to say about a thousand but I can’t, I don’t want to over-quote myself there, so.”
Strauss adds registration for the event entitles participants to enjoy some activities following the ride Saturday afternoon at Florence Park…
“So Saturday after the ride from 1:00 to 4:00 pm they will have a little barbecue going. They’ll serve food until 2:00 pm. It is first come, first serve, and then they’ll also have live music, so it’s just a great way to come together as a biking community and enjoy each other’s company and tell those stories from throughout the years and really just embrace the campus bike ride.”
Again, you can register in person Friday evening at Florence Park from 7:00 until 9:00 pm and again Saturday from 7:00 am until 9:00 am.
