(Okoboji)– The curtain goes up Tuesday evening (June 23rd) on the opening production of the 68th season at Okoboji Summer Theatre. Ring of Fire will be taking the stage. Stephen Brotebeck (broh-duh-beck) is the Director and Choreographer of the production…
“We have such a young, talented group of performers, both Stephens students and also our fellows that are coming from all over the country. Instead of them portraying Johnny Cash like a bio musical, it’s them discovering Johnny Cash’s music and finding how it relates to them as young folks. I really think Johnny Cash’s music is timeless, yeah, absolutely. When it came out, his storytelling, his lyrics, all of that, but each generation discovered Johnny Cash in a different way and this group of students and young folks are discovering it a whole different way. It’s really great to see how they find themselves in the music, find themselves in the storytelling. And so you’re going to see Johnny Cash’s music performed with an amazing band led by Travis McFarlane who’s our Musical Director. But then you’re going to see choreography, you’re going to see dance, things in ways you wouldn’t necessarily notice Johnny Cash’s music; you’re going to see it in a different way.”
Tickets are still available but are going quickly. They’re available by stopping by the box office or by calling 332-7773.
