Next In Lakeside Lab Speaker Series Is This (Tues.) Evening

June 02, 2026

(Wahpeton)– The Iowa Lakeside Lab features a different speaker every Tuesday for the Lakeside Speaker Series. Amie Adams is the Editor of Iowa Field Guides Volume One and she discusses what will be talked about…

“I will be leading a reading and conversation from Iowa Field Guides Volume one, which is all about Iowa’s prairies and features visual art, poetry, short stories, and essays from thirty different contributors who all have connections to different prairies around Iowa. And I’m really excited because the reading that we’ll be doing on Tuesday night will feature three previous writers and residents from Lakeside Lab, who will all be joining me.”

Adams says literary guides have become more and more popular over the last 10 years and shares that the Iowa Field Guides Volume One is really a grassroots effort…

“There are other literary field guides that have been created for other parts of the United States. There’s a really wonderful one called Cascadia. There’s one that was done for the Rocky Mountains, one that was done for the Sonoran Desert. And so this collection, it’s a really grassroots, community oriented project. But taking up that tradition here in Iowa and just looking really closely at remnant prairies, at reconstructed prairies, at individual species who live in different areas in the state.”

The Lakeside Speaker Series happens every Tuesday at Mahan Hall at the Iowa Lakeside Laboratory located just off highway 86. You can see full details of each week’s program at iowalakesidelab.org.
