(Spencer)– Some additional flags will soon be going up in Spencer, just in time for the community’s annual Flagfest celebration coming up in just a few weeks. Blake Goss of the Spencer Chamber of Commerce says it’s being made possible by an organization from outside the area…
“There is a nonprofit out of the Des Moines area called Veteran Flag Pole Initiative. They fundraise throughout the whole year and they pick a community each year and they install flag poles for veterans free of charge. So they’ll be installing over 20 of them this week of leading into Flagfest and then they enter into our parade as well to highlight that. It’s all Iowa-based as well. So it was very cool to see that phone call coming in and get them here to town and we’ll get that all in line. Some veterans will be having some well deserved flag poles in their yards for many years to come afterwards.”
Goss says they were just informed Friday that Spencer was among the towns selected by the organization this year.
