(Sheldon)– A crash of a semi Friday on Highway 60 about a mile south of Sheldon injured a North Carolina man.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says 49-year-old Aliki Simmons of Whitsett, North Carolina, was driving a 2023 Freightliner pulling a refrigerated trailer northbound when he lost control. The rig went into the east ditch and jack-knifed.
Simmons was taken by ambulance to the Sheldon hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was cited for failure to maintain control.
Damage to the semi was estimated at $25,000.
The crash took place at 7:41 am Friday.
The Sheldon Police Department, Sheldon Fire Department, Sheldon Community Ambulance Team, Sheldon Emergency Management, Iowa State Patrol and the Iowa Department of Transportation assisted on the scene.
