May 20, 2026

(Jackson, Mn.)– A native of Jackson, Minnesota who died in World War II after a fighter plane he was piloting was shot down, is finally being returned to his hometown.

Thomas Arthur Ruth died as a result of the crash that took place on June 30th, 1943. He was declared missing that same day and was presumed dead on January 6th, 1946. A team searched the area of where Ruth’s plane was believed to have gone done but couldn’t find anything. In 2013, a Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command investigation team located the crash site and remains. Laboratory tests on April 8th, 2025, and a comparison of family reference, confirmed them as Ruth.

He will finally be laid to rest in a ceremony at 11:00 am Wednesday, May 27th, at Riverside Cemetery in Jackson.
