Seasons Center Offering Mental Health First Aid Training Session

May 04, 2026

(Emmetsburg)– May is Mental Health Awareness Month and Sarah-Heinrichs Wurm, with Seasons Center for Behavioral Health, says it’s important to offer these training sessions…

“What we like to do in May is do a variety of activities, trainings and things that really promote mental health awareness and provide education and resources to individuals and really work to reduce that stigma around mental health. So the training is youth mental health first aid, and we will be doing that on Wednesday, May thirteenth in Emmitsburg at the public library.”

Heinrichs-Wurm says mental health first aid is important…

“What mental health first aid kind of is, is really similar to CPR in a health situation. Mental Health First Aid teaches us how to recognize and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health challenges or crises, and then where to connect individuals to get additional supports as needed.”

Heinrichs-Wurm says they have seen not only an increase to access of services but an increase in people using the services they offer…

“We want to just continue to build on that momentum and really make it make it okay to access that care and support because it is a it is okay to get help. Um, mental health challenges can impact anybody. Doesn’t necessarily matter who you are, what your age is, all of those things. And so, um, we want to, to continue to increase that awareness.”

The training will be held on Wednesday May 13th from 8:30 to 4:30 at the Emmetsburg Public Library. Registration is required for the event and space is limited. We have included a registration link with this story under the news tab at exploreokoboji.com
