(Okoboji)– Oaxaca Youth Empowerment has supported children and youth in Oaxaca, Mexico the past 25 years. Their mission is to improve the quality of life for young people and their families in Oaxaca by supporting their educational opportunities. Dennis Lippon of Spirit Lake, a longtime supporter of the mission, talks about the program…
“Oaxaca Youth Empowerment is an organization that provides an avenue for children that are very poor, probably relegated to the streets for a living and poverty the rest of their lives in Oaxaca, Mexico. And the reason they’re relegated there is they can’t get an education, don’t have the money for the uniforms, the shoes and necessary supplies. They just don’t have the money.”
You can help support the cause at a benefit taking place at 6:00 pm this (Friday, May 1st) evening at the Pearson Lakes Art Center. Lippon tells us what it will consist of…
“The director of the organization will be there. The CEO of the organization will be there, and my family and I will be there. Included in the program will be lots of information about Oaxaca Youth Empowerment. There’ll be a silent auction, lots of fun things that a lot of people can use from merchants around here. And during the program, we are going to have the pleasure. We, my wife and I, are presenting our Masters Degree in Criminal Forensics by video at the event.”
The night will include a special documentary screening, food and drinks, raffle prizes, and an opportunity to support the continued education of students in Oaxaca, Mexico. There will also be a special tribute to Cliff Hinderman, who also donated a lot of his time and money to Youth Empowerment in Mexico.
